February 16 update

The online application is open now. Click the button above to start your application. One application is required for each participant. No payment is required to apply. You will hear from us to confirm your spot as well as instructions on how to pay a deposit by the end of February. Thank you for your patience.

If you are a single person, since single rooms are very limited, you will have a better chance to get on the tour if you have the flexibility to share a room with another person. You can leave a note in the comments at the end of the application.

Unfortunately the tour coordinator is sick off work today. We will do our best to answer your question by email - [email protected]. We are unable to answer questions by phone today.

If you are unable to submit and online application by yourself, and need phone assistance, call reception at 604-777-7000 and leave your name and number. We will note the time you called and mark that as the time of you application. We will call you back next week to collect your application details.

If you wish to have questions answered before you decide to apply or not, we suggest you submit your application now so you get in line. You have the choice to withdraw your application at no cost as long as it is done before paying your deposit.

The coach company we are using is Perimeter Transportation, equipted with seatbelts.

Hotels are Holiday Inn in Osoyoos, Hume Hotel in Nelson for 2 nights, and Holiday Inn in Kamloops.

2023 summer Internment Bus Tour announced

Visit Japanese Canadian internment sites and Nikkei communities in beautiful British Columbia.

5 days 4 nights: July 10-14, 2023

The Nikkei National Museum is making it easy for you to access remote locations where Japanese Canadians were interned during the Second World War. This 5-day bus tour drives through some of British Columbia’s most gorgeous scenery.

The tour offers a unique opportunity to learn about the first difficult days of internment at Hastings Park in Vancouver, and to visit historic communities, such as Greenwood, Christina Lake, New Denver, Kaslo, Slocan, and Sandon. In these towns, existing buildings were repurposed to house Japanese Canadians. The tour will also locate remote town sites that no longer exist, including Tashme, Lemon Creek, Popoff, and East Lillooet. While they have a solemn past, several of these locations still have small but thriving Japanese Canadian communities. We will also stop to view the highway commemorative signs which were installed in 2017/2018.

During the tour, museum staff as well as local historians and residents will present comprehensive information and site-specific details. And you never know who will be on the bus to share a great story.

We welcome everyone interested to join. The tour will be both educational and enjoyable, with comfortable accommodations and good food.
