Halloween Tea Ceremony - Trick or Tea!

Gather to enjoy a spooktacular bowl of matcha during our popular Book Sale at the Nikkei Centre!

The tea ceremony is a carefully choreographed Japanese cultural activity of preparing and serving matcha tea accompanied with traditional Japanese sweets. It is appropriate for anyone who is interested in the art of tea and/or Japanese culture.

Here you can sign up for a 45-minute long tea ceremony. Tea ceremonies are offered at 11am, 12pm and 3pm. Participants will observe how movements, gestures, tea utensils and the guests themselves are all carefully considered while performing the ceremony. Afterward, you will be served matcha with wagashi.

If you have ever wanted to make your own matcha tea, then this is for you! Tea Making Experience (1pm and 2pm) includes a tea ceremony introduction, presentation, and offering an opportunity for guests to make matcha tea on their own. This is recommended for families and anyone who would like to try to make the tea themselves. This workshop is suitable for ages 6 and up.

Adult: $25 | Youth (13-18): $10 | Child (6-12): free *must be accompanied by an adult

These special tea ceremonies will be offered in the traditional tatami room (you also get to sit in a seiza position!) and have the choice of sitting on a chair. Please bring/wear a pair of white socks if you would like to be seated in the tatami room.
