Based on the true story of the Vancouver Asahi Baseball Team before the Second World War. The Asahi team brought hope and joy to a community who faced discrimination and hardship. The Nikkei National Museum is pleased to present this film during the 100th anniversary since the Asahi team joined the newly formed international leagues and won the first championships of many championships.

Home Run at Powell Street Project

This summer, the Nikkei National Museum collections team is working hard to process records relating to the Vancouver Asahi baseball team, including items connected to the Asahi players' families, and to the Japanese Canadian community of pre-war Powell Street. The community supported the Asahis in their rise as local heros for decades, including before, during, and since World War II. The NNMCC collections team needs your help to identify individuals, locations, and dates in a large collection of photographs currently being digitized for public sharing. These photographs range from Asahi players over the years, to their family members, to members of the community living in Powell Street. Please stop by our table to flip through items from the collection and provide your valuable input! We hope to connect with you soon.
