Katsumi Kimoto is originally from the coastal community of Ucluelet, BC, located on the West coast of Vancouver Island. Currently, Kimoto lives and works in Vancouver, BC, and operates his commercial art gallery by the same name, Kimoto Gallery.
His colourful abstract work plays with texture, movement and depth, to emulate the beauty of the nature around him. “I am greatly influenced by where I’m from and by the beautiful things that have always inspired me. My experiences are the foundation of my work. Abstract artwork for me is truly about capturing the essence or feeling of something, in the paint, without painting that thing itself.”
Kimoto achieved his Bachelor of Fine Arts, with Distinction, from Concordia University in Montreal, QC, and also has a Diploma in Visual Arts, with Honors, from Kwantlen College, in Surrey, BC and a Senior Management Certificate in New Media Design, from BCIT in Burnaby, BC.
