Volunteer Opportunity: Arts & Culture Camp Assistant

Seeking engaging volunteers who want to work with kids at a fun and creative day camp!

Spring Break Manga Camp is a fun-filled week of creating manga and exploring traditional Japanese arts and cultural activities at the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Center. At this unique arts camp, kids learn illustration, storytelling, and design; and experienced traditional Japanese arts and crafts.

What will you do?

Prepare materials for activities

Assist instructors with the facilitating arts and crafts activities

Provide supervision during breaks

Escort kids to and from activities at Nikkei Centre

Set up and clean up rooms before and after the camp

Encourage participation and creativity!


Skills and requirements

16-years-old minimum

Ability to enthusiastically engage with children, ages 9 to 12 years old

Ability to take direction from staff and arts instructors

Conversational English skills required – Manga Camp is instructed in English to primarily English-speaking participants

All levels of Japanese language skills are an asset

Leadership and teaching experience are an asset

Creative and artistic skills are an asset

Knowledge of and interest in comics, manga, and anime are an asset

Availability– Volunteers must be available to help for a minimum of three days of camp:

Monday, March 19 to Friday, March 23, 2018

9am to 12:30pm

12:30pm to 4:30pm
