What a weekend it was! The Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre (NNMCC) and the NNMCC Auxiliary were thrilled to welcome an incredible 3,000 attendees over the past weekend, May 3 and 4, for our annual Spring Bazaar. Due to popular demand this year’s event was expanded into a two-day event. This year’s Spring Bazaar held a special significance as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the NNMCC serving the community. It was heartwarming to see so many familiar faces and new friends come together to celebrate Nikkei culture.

Our grounds buzzed with excitement as visitors explored the diverse offerings. From the familiar and comforting flavours of Japan, including the Auxiliary’s much-loved manju (which sold out in 45 minutes both days), to the tempting street food and desserts.

The Nikkei Garden was a haven for plant enthusiasts, showcasing a beautiful selection of outdoor and in-door plants, including unique Japanese varieties. We saw many happy attendees leaving with new additions to their gardens, ready to bring a touch of spring to their homes.

Inside Hayashi Hall, the curated collection of handmade crafts was on display. The talent and artistry on display were truly inspiring, and it was wonderful to see so many supporting local artisans. We hope everyone found that special, one-of-a-kind treasure!

We were also delighted to see so many people embrace the opportunity to learn new dances! The free introductory workshops for Hula on Saturday and Bon Odori on Sunday were a hit, with beginners and experienced dancers alike joining in the fun.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this event: our dedicated volunteers, our talented vendors, our generous donors, and of course, every single person who came through our doors. Your support directly benefits the NNMCC’s cultural and community programs, educational outreach, and exhibits, ensuring that we can continue to share and preserve Nikkei heritage for years to come.
A special thank you to the NNMCC Auxiliary for their tireless efforts in preparing and serving their delicious food. Their dedication is truly invaluable.
We encourage you to find out more about joining the wonderful NNMCC Auxiliary.
We can’t wait to welcome you back to the NNMCC soon!
