The Tanabata Market, held on Sunday, July 6, welcomed over 2,000 visitors to a day of shopping and Japanese culture. The market showcased a wide array of vendors, offering everything from handmade crafts and flea market finds to a selection of plants and fresh produce. Visitors enjoyed a good selection of Japanese street food, featuring favorites like takoyaki, ramen, okonomiyaki and many more. A special moment was seeing many visitors embrace the spirit of the tanabata star festival by wearing yukata. Attendees of all ages enjoyed the tradition of writing wishes on colourful paper to add to the tanabata decorations. The cultural performances were a highlight, too, with shishimai by Rakuichi, and a show by the Samurai Cinema Club, who regularly practice at Nikkei Centre. Community members also came together for a bon odori practice session in the Nikkei Garden. We extend our gratitude to all attendees, participants, and dedicated volunteers who came together to make this celebration of culture and community a success. We look forward to welcoming everyone to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre at Nikkei Matsuri on August 30 & 31.
