As we reflect on a memorable 2025 full of exhibits, programs, events, and activities, we welcome the Year of the Horse with a spirit of energetic optimism, ready to move forward with the steady swiftness of this clever symbol.
In 2025, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the opening of the NNMCC and initiated the Nikkei Next Capital Projects, consisting of several essential and culturally impactful building and garden projects. After 25 years, we replaced our aging roof system; this new roof over our heads will carry us through another 25+ years. In collaboration with Burnaby and Kushiro, we celebrated the two cities’ 60th anniversary of Sister City relations, culminating in the unveiling of our Kushiro Lane Garden as part of the Nikkei Place Sakura-Momiji project.
We are in the final stages of the replacement and restoration of our heating and cooling system, setting us up for interior improvements in 2026 that will make our spaces more welcoming and suitable for enhanced programming, including our Lobby Lounge and Chashitsu Tearoom. Behind the scenes, the Heritage Hub project has progressed, laying the foundation for new museum systems that you will hear more about this coming year—stay tuned!

新年あけましておめでとうございます。2026年が皆様にとって素晴らしい一年となりますよう、心よりお祈り申し上げます。ホリデーシーズンを、喜びと安らぎ、そして大切な方々と健やかにお過ごしになられたことと存じます。
展示やプログラム、イベント、諸活動に恵まれた思い出深い2025年を振り返りつつ、当館は午年を躍動的な精神で迎え、この干支のように、着実かつ迅速に前進していく決意です。
2025年には、NNMCC開館25周年という大きな節目を祝うとともに、文化的にも重要な建物や庭園整備計画である「日系ネクスト・キャピタル・プロジェクト」を始動しました。25年を経て老朽化した屋根の全面改修を完了し、新しくなった屋根は、これから先25年以上にわたって私たちを守ってくれることでしょう。また、バーナビー市と釧路市の姉妹都市提携60周年を祝い、「日系プレイス 桜・もみじプロジェクト」の一環として「釧路レーン・ガーデン」をお披露目することができたことも大きな喜びです。
現在は、空調システムの入れ替えと改修が最終段階にあります。これにより、2026年にはロビーラウンジや茶室を含む館内施設のさらなる充実を図り、より心地よく、多様なプログラムに適した空間へと整えてまいります。舞台裏では「ヘリテージ・ハブ・プロジェクト」も進行しており、新しいミュージアム・システムの基盤を築いています。これについては改めて詳細をご報告いたしますので、どうぞご期待ください。
