The 11th annual Nikkei Matsuri festival on takes place on September 1-3, 2023, to celebrate Japanese culture. We invite families and all ages in Metro Vancouver and beyond to a cultural celebration of an authentic Japanese festival. A pre-festival “Zenyasai Beer Garden” celebration will take place on Friday, September 1, with the main festivities happening on Saturday and Sunday, September 2 & 3.
This year, we are honoured to welcome Samurai Artists, Kamui, as our special guests from Japan, alongside a stellar lineup of popular programming. At the heart of our festival is the spirit of enjoyment and celebration of Japanese culture. Our festival will provide an opportunity to sample diverse culinary offerings of Japanese culture, blending traditional Japanese arts such as taiko drumming, odori dancing, live mural painting, and martial arts with pop-culture highlights like J-pop singing groups and food trucks. We are proud to present high artistic value in our programming, and support local artists and artisans.
The Nikkei Matsuri Festival is bringing back the popular Talent Search presented by Vancouver Shinpo. This is a chance for local amateur musicians, dancers, and other performers to showcase their talents in a fun and entertaining event.

Join us on the Nikkei Matsuri Eve for an evening of house music & dancing among the chochin lanterns and Yagura tower.
We invite everyone to come and celebrate with us, and experience the best of Japanese culture in the heart of Burnaby.
This festival is not possible without the support of sponsors, donors, volunteers, community partners and members. Your contribution helps bring the community together by making enjoyable and affordable programs possible. All proceeds benefit Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre‘s cultural and community programs, educational outreach, and museum.
Admission
Advance tickets: $8 + tax
At the door: $10 tax included
- Paid admission is required for Adults 18-64 years old.
- Advance tickets are available for $8 + tax. Tickets at the door are $10 including tax.
Free and no tickets nor bookings required for:
- NNMCC members [presentation of membership card required at entrance]
- Children/Youth 0-17 years old.
- Seniors 65+
- Admission is free for all between 6pm-7pm.
Tickets
- Your ticket is valid for one day.
- We encourage you to present your ticket on a mobile device, but you can print it out too.
Tickets are also available in-person
- After August 1, tickets will be available in person at the NNMCC reception during office hours, Tue-Sat 10am-5pm.
- Tickets are not available over the phone – please purchase online or in person.
Refund policy
- Refunds are available up to 7 days before the event starts.
- Eventbrite fees are non-refundable and will be deducted from your refund.
Strollers
- Strollers are not allowed inside the building.
- Strollers are allowed in the front Nikkei Garden and the Food Truck Plaza by Beresford Street.
- Unsupervised stroller parking is available by the West and East Entrances.
- Paid supervised stroller parking is available by the front doors.
Pets and animals
- Service Animals for The Blind & Disabled can enter.
- Pets are allowed in the front garden, and the Food Truck Plaza at the back of the building.
- Pets are not allowed inside the building.
Wearing costumes
People wearing costumes covering your face, such as kigurumi, cannot enter the paid areas.

日本文化の情緒あふれる、多くの祭事やイベントの企画が、皆さまをお待ちしています。賑やかな神輿の練り歩きや、心躍るパフォーマンス、食欲そそられる出店や露店などが盛りだくさんです。子どもたちが夢中になる、スーパーボールすくいなどのとっておきのゲームもあります。一番の目玉イベントは、やぐらの周りで行われる盆踊りです。祭りの雰囲気を心からお楽しみいただくために、浴衣のレンタルもご用意しています。さらに、ダンスや音楽、和太鼓演奏、武道の見取り稽古、そして日本からの特別ゲスト、さむらい集団 かむゐの武道とアートの融合パフォーマンスイベントもあります。屋内ではフリーマーケット、展示会、指圧マッサージ、古本を販売する日系ブックストアなどが並びます。グルメ好きな方には、フードトラックプラザでの屋台フードやスイーツがぴったりです。日系祭りは地元のアマチュアミュージシャンやダンサーなどが才能を競い合うタレントサーチ（バンクーバー新報提供）の決勝戦で締めくくられます。
9月1日には、前夜祭ビアガーデンが初めて開催されます。緑あふれる日本庭園で、音楽、アートとともに、お祭りの前日ならではのワクワクする一夜を過ごしませんか。提灯や屋台の周りで夏の雰囲気を味わいつつ、冷たいビールや日本酒などで乾杯しましょう。Rennie FosterをはじめとするDJたちが、ハウスミュージックやハイテクソウルなどのきらめく音楽で、夏の思い出に残る夜を演出します。また、人気アーティストTaka Sudoによる壁画ライブペイントも、前夜祭を一層盛り上げてくれます。
日系祭りは、スポンサー、寄付者、ボランティア、地域の皆さま、およびメンバーの皆さまの支援により成り立っています。収益はすべて、日系文化センター・博物館の文化的・地域的なプログラム、教育啓発、展示に役立てられます。詳細や最新情報は、日系祭りのウェブサイトをご覧いただくか、Instagram等のソーシャルメディアをフォローしてご確認ください。

- 午後6時から午後7時までの間、どなたでも無料で入場できます。

- チケットは1日有効です。
- チケットはモバイルデバイスで提示することをお勧めしますが、印刷しても構いません。
- 当日券の方は直接入り口でお買い求めください。
前売りチケットは日系センターでも購入できます
- 8月1日以降、チケットはNNMCCの受付で購入できます。受付時間：火曜日から土曜日の午前10時から午後5時
- 電話でチケット購入はできませんので、オンラインまたは日系センターで購入してください。
返金ポリシー
- イベント開始の7日前までに返金が可能です。
- Eventbriteの手数料は返金されず、返金額から差し引かれます。
ベビーカーをお使いになられる方へ
- 混雑のため、建物内にはベビーカーは持ち込めません。
- ベビーカーは正面の日系ガーデン内、およびBeresford Streetのフードトラックプラザで使用できます。
- 無料の監視なしのベビーカー置き場は西と東の入り口付近にあります。
- 有料の係員付きベビーカー置き場は正面ドア前にあります。
ペットや動物
- 障害のある方のための介助動物は入場いただけます。
- ペットは日系ガーデン内、およびBeresford Streetのフードトラックプラザに入ることはできます。
- ペットは日系センターの建物内には入場できません。
コスチュームの着用
キグルミなど、顔を覆うコスチュームを着用した方は有料エリアに入ることはできません。
