In a large indoor arena, two martial artists dressed in dark blue bogu (protective armor) and hakama engage in a Jukendo match on a polished wooden floor. They are both lunging forward, thrusting long wooden bayonets, known as mokuju, toward one another. The practitioner on the left has "Miyagi" and "Kono" written in white kanji on their tare (waist protector). To the right, a referee in a black suit holds a small red flag, closely monitoring the exchange. In the background, rows of spectators sit in green stadium seating.

Program Description

Jukendo and Tankendo are among the nine modern Budo arts practiced by students in Japan. These unique martial arts represent a cultural fusion of traditional Japanese spear techniques (Sojutsu), short-blade arts (Tantojutsu), and Western bayonet fencing.

Training is conducted using a Mokujyu (wooden rifle) and a Tanken (short bamboo sword), with a strong focus on discipline, precision, timing, and controlled sparring.

We welcome both beginners and youth participants. Additionally, Naginata and Kendo practitioners are invited to join our Isshujiai (cross-discipline) sessions, held on the last Sunday of every month.

In a large gymnasium, two women dressed in traditional black keikogi and hakama perform a disciplined martial arts demonstration. The woman on the left lunges forward, her wooden short sword (kodachi) held at her waist, while her other arm is extended toward her opponent's face. The woman on the right leans back defensively, holding her own wooden sword high above her head in a blocking or striking posture. In the background, rows of spectators in blue martial arts gear sit cross-legged on the polished wooden floor, and tiers of orange stadium seating rise behind them. The atmosphere is intense and focused.
