Let's try Japanese traditional performing art!

What is 殺陣(Tate)?

殺陣(Tate) is choreographed performing stage combat for Cinemas and Theaters. It is deeply rooted in tradition and requires skill, precision, acting, and an understanding of martial arts techniques.

What to expect?

In our class, we'll teach you the basics of samurai movement and how to wield Katana like actors. Plus, you can try some choreography based on Japanese Samurai cinema and Anime! Try the choreography and roll the camera, so you can see yourself in action during class!

We would love you to enjoy Japanese culture by interacting with other participants.

Here's what's in store for you:

  •  Warm Up: Warm-up activities with a Katana where you'll pick up essential sword techniques and soak in some samurai wisdom to kick off the fun!
  • Choreography Practice: Learn and memorize exciting choreography inspired by Samurai Cinema and Anime.
  • Shooting Your Scene: Film your scene, adding an extra layer of enjoyment as you put your newly learned skills to the test behind the lens!

No prior experience is necessary—our class is open and welcome to beginners of all backgrounds.

Rental swords are available!

Our instructors are professional Actors/Katana Performers who are also featured in the Disney+ Samurai TV series ‘SHOGUN 将軍’ and have a wide range of experience in both Canada and Japan. You can learn some real behind-the-scenes tales straight from the film industry!
