Weaving Us Together

We would not be who we are today without our teams of dedicated volunteers.
261 volunteers worked over 7,000 hours for us in 2022.

Let me tell you about the amazing volunteers at the Nikkei Japanese Bookstore, our second-hand bookstore on the 2nd floor. A dozon volunteers take in, sort, and sell the books. Although usually only one person is in charge of the store, during events, they exhibit great teamwork.

Since everyone there is a book lover, why not ask for a recommended book? Ms. Keiko Okawa, who volunteers on Thursdays, loves novels, mysteries, and the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters). Mr. Masao Kano, who volunteers on Fridays, loves historical novels. And on Saturdays, high school students often come and go, and Elise said she loves Keigo Higashino's "The Miracles of the Namiya General Store."

Proceeds from Nikkei Japanese Bookstore contribute to NNMCC’s work to honour, preserve and share the history and heritage of Japanese Canadians and Japanese culture in Canada. Thank you to our lovely volunteers!
